WHERE DID THE STACKS OF NUMBERS GO?

A MATH LESSON

Wondering when long division will start? Parents of every grade should observe the children in the 3rd-5th classrooms as they learn math. A discussion will follow in the library. This will be especially helpful if you're baffled by why your children are learning math differently than you did. Tuesday, March 22, 8:35 a.m.

EARTH CARES ABOUT JAPAN

Dear Everyone,
We would like to give a HUGE thank you to everybody who supported the fundraising for the earthquake- and tsunami-relief for Japan.

We had a great turnout, as the numbers show (below). But it was more important that we really felt a warm heart and generosity from each person, with many caring words. It means a lot to us.

We will make sure every penny goes to the right organization to help people there in our country, people who are trying to be strong and live.

Here are the numbers from the fundraising:

Morning Coffee, Bake Sale and Craft Sale: $382.25
Morning Sale in Colin's Class: $139.05
Afternoon Donation and Onigiri Bake Sale: $1156.12
Donation that Taro from Donna's class collected: $440.25
______________
Grand Total: $2,117.67

The money goes to:
JAPAN SOCIETY
333 East 47th Street
New York, New York 10017
Attn: Japan Earthquake Relief Fund

The Little Farmers That Could -- Help Wanted

Garden season is upon us and the whole community is getting involved! The Pre-K "Green Growers" have started their lettuce. The Kindergartner "Underground Farmers" are awaiting garlic scapes and are starting carrots and radishes. The 1st/2nd Grade "Pod Planters" are about to start their peas. The 3rd Grade are the "Herb Gardeners." The 4th/5th Grade "Nutritionists" are studying and tending to the delicious and nutrient-packed brassicas (broccoli, kale, and collards). And the 4th and 5th Grade "Garden Interns" are preparing beds for spring planting and starting seeds indoors.

You can help, too!! Abbe needs volunteers to help out in the garden any nice day (except Mondays) at drop-off between 8 and 9 a.m.

Tasks include: small maintenance and handy-person jobs, turning the compost pile, and, of course, gardening. Experience a plus, but not necessary. She is also needs someone to put together a seed rack (direction-reading and screwdriver skills a must!)

SPRING AUCTION -- GAINING FULL STEAM AHEAD

This event will rock! Keep those donations coming in. If you can help with child care at the event -- for even an hour -- or sell tickets, serve food or want to help in any way, please contact Lisa Adler or Kathleen Reynolds.

Remember: April 9, 6:00 p.m. St. Nicholas Hall. Bring your friends!

Donation forms and letters available here and here - still time to bring in those all important contributions from friends, families and local businesses...
