A HUGE pat on our collective backs

... for a terrific Fall Fair. We made more than $10,000 (still counting!) and everyone had a great time. Thank you to everyone -- the organizers, the maze and golf course builders, the ticket sellers, stage deliverers, booth workers, clothes sorters, food makers/bakers/sellers, face painters, craft hawkers, letter signers, flour stuffers, cupcake frosters, picture takers, frame cutters, pumpkin pickers and haulers of every sort!! The parents and the children who helped made Saturday a success were all appreciated: Every. Last. One of you.

A maze mystery for the ages: How is it that children won't pick up a pair of dirty socks, but will happily spend money to crawl around on the ground in the dark?

BING contest is still in action!

We want to win $100,000. BING had to extend our first deadline until Tuesday (tonight) because so many people had troubling logging on. Don't give up! Keep on registering. We'll find out the semi-finalists on Wednesday. Click here for instructions for voting.

Letter of Protest

A letter to School Chancellor Klein and Mayor Bloomberg is in the lobby. Please sign at pick-up or drop off if you haven't already.

We aren't a "D" school!

More importantly, the entire grading system is skewed and shouldn't be used (which many people have been saying for years). We're asking Klein and Bloomberg to spend money on our children, not on businesses that reduce education to confusing letter grades.

Original Works -- Deadline this Wednesday

1. You should have received a package including your child's artwork, order form and price list, in the backpacks last week.

2. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THIS ARTWORK!! Your child make as many beautiful paintings, drawings, collages as you like (but nothing bumpy, googly eyes or glittery. It must be just paper on paper; paper MUST be 8.5X11).

3. Orders are due Wednesday the 27th or contact Rain if you need an extension!

4. These are amazing keepsakes for your family and for your children. They make wonderful gifts. Last year, a parent ordered something for everybody in her extended family and took care of all her holiday gifts, plus made money for our school. Please enjoy this wonderful program!!

5. Please feel free to place multiple orders (you can copy a blank form or get an extra from Rain). One order form per piece of artwork!

SLT (School Leadership Team) - Highlights of Meeting

-- One member of the SLT (comprised of teachers and parents) has dropped out, so there is an opening. A special election will be held; it involves a once/monthly meeting and involvement on a committee. If you are interested, or have questions about it, contact Casey Fuetsch at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Election date to come.

-- SLT also voted to make ES a peanut-free school. The action plan for implementing this is in the works. Happily, our children who are allergic to peanuts will soon be able to eat in the cafeteria with their friends, as well as have COW time in classes that were not previously peanut free.

-- SLT and PA meetings last week were both well attended. Alison explained the Department of Education's very confusing grading system.

CALENDAR CHANGE

The Fall Town Meeting Date has changed to Thursday, November 18 in the evening.

This is a chance for parents and teachers to come together to discuss the future of our school. More info to come.
