SWIFT ACTION IS NEEDED ON TWO FRONTS!
We have a chance to win $100,000...
By now you will probably have heard about the Bing 'Our School Needs' competition for which a few of our parents have made a HUGE effort and put together an amazing video application.
How this works, is you log on to the competition website and give our school's application your vote. Voting would show our appreciation for the hard work done pulling this application together AND increase our chances of garnering $$ for our Music, Dance, Community Health and many more programs.
We must act quickly. There are two voting stages, so please read carefully:
Please go to the link to our entry below, register and when you get your confirmation e-mail, rate us by Oct 24th. You can vote once a day. Use all your e-mail addresses.
THEN, we will get to the semi-finals and you can vote for us from October 27 to November 5th, up to 5 times a day. Use all your e-mail addresses, post on Facebook (they make that part easy) and on Twitter. Please also pass onto all your friends and family and ask them to do the same.
Click here to go directly to our entry...
Once you take three minutes to register, the repeat voting is a snap. It'll be worth it!!
SEND THE LINK TO RELATIVES, FRIENDS, AND COLLEAGUES.
Fall Fair...
...is on Saturday from 11:00-4:00 in Tompkins Square Park.
** We need savory food to sell. Cook, bake, bring it on. PLEASE.
** We also need people to sign up to help. Look at the list of Booths outside the school office. Put your name down and the time that you're available. No amount of time is too small. If you honestly can't get to school to sign up, e-mail one of the PA Execs (to your right) with your name, phone, e-mail and time available and they'll do it for you. We need those afternoon shift folks to refresh the mood of the fair.
** Set up and clean up are also chances to help. If you can take orders from really busy, really tired people and keep your sense of humor, this is a wonderful chance to show your stuff.
Boy oh boy is this a busy week!

Nitpicking Details
Those nasty little bugs are making yet another appearance. Lice Enders will be return to check heads, but in the meantime, please check your children's heads and do not send them to school if they have lice or eggs in their hair. Parent Coordinator Jocelyn Walsh has information on getting rid of the pests, but one suggestion that may already be in your cupboard is vinegar.
Pour vinegar on the hair, wrap the head in either a shower cap or saran wrap (never leave the saran wrap on at night or leave your child unattended -- plastic is a suffocation hazard) and wait one hour. Then, comb out the hair in fine sections, using a strong light and magnifying glass to hunt those little devils. Lice are tiny bugs; the eggs (nits) will appear as tiny attachments to the hair and will be difficult to remove; simple dandruff just flakes off. Some parents mix the vinegar with olive oil or mayonnaise to help keep the mixture on the head and suffocate the bugs. After you've combed, wash with regular shampoo. You may need to repeat the procedure immediately or the next day but do the treatment again a week later for any eggs that have hatched. This is only one suggestion; there are many options.
Don't be embarrassed by the bug. Ask for help. Lice is very common and everyone seems to have a friend or relative who's had them.

Original Works
Is what we meant last week, not Original Arts. You know what we meant, though, right? Either way, look out for the order form in your child's backpack soon to have their artwork transferred to magnets, mugs, mouse pads and more.
