CURRICULUM NIGHT
Thursday, October 14, 6 p.m.
Learn what our children are being taught and discover how they're learning it. Teachers offer their annual plan of action on Thursday evening.
Childcare and pizza will be provided in the gym for students only while the parents meet in the classrooms.
LET'S TALK ABOUT IT:
Department of Education (DOE)'s "Report Card"
A lot of parents have concerns and questions about the "D" grade that Earth recently got from the DOE. Alison will be addressing the "why's, wherefore's and what now's" of the report at two meetings next week: The School Leadership Team (SLT) meeting on Wednesday 10/20 at 3:30; and the Parents Association (PA) meeting on Thursday 10/21 at 8:40 a.m. Please try to come to one or both of the meetings so that facts can be attained and your questions answered.
Also on the SLT agenda next week: Peanut-free school thoughts, Fall Town Meeting and the Quality Review. All staff and parents welcome.
FALL FAIR
Read all about it ('cause it's almost upon us and it's gonna be good):
** Help!!! We need more people to man the booths. We need folks to offer time at the miniature golf course, the farmer's market, food booths and crafts and games areas. Sign up sheets outside the office, or e-mail our events coordinators (addresses to your right).
** Volunteers are needed with their cars and trucks for
transportation before and after the event.
** Rummage sale: Bring your gently used clothing and books to room 104. The Rummage part of the Fair brings in the a lot of money for us and the neighborhood loves it.
** We also need donations of small prizes for games and Randi the Pocket Lady. Think of all those leftover party favors that are too new to throw out but are taking up drawer and cupboard space.
Fall Fair update meeting Thursday at 8:40 a.m. in the PA room.
MORE THAN JUST A DRAWING STUCK TO THE REFRIGERATOR
Original Arts is coming to Earth again! Don't sweat about what gift to give that grandparent, step-parent or kindly neighbor who has everything.
This program allows you to have your child's very own artwork reproduced onto a selection of over 20 quality products. These products range from magnets, mugs and mouse pads to T-shirts, tote bags and tiles. The wide selection of full color products offers something for everyone. Your child will be creating their artwork in school, using the regular art curriculum as the basis for their work of art. You then have the opportunity to order whatever products you wish with your child's own artwork featured on each and every item. A percentage of the monies goes to the PA.
Order forms coming soon to a backpack in your household.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Some parents have been kicking around the idea of getting children involved in our community, specifically working with the senior citizens of the neighborhood.
Our art teacher Patrice has discovered an art program that connects children with seniors at the Cirovich Senior Center (12th St., between 1st and 2nd Aves). Program begins October 18; small fee for art supplies. For more information, click here.
A Real Cut Up
Those box-tops you keep hearing about? Well....seems that we have a deadline coming up. Bring them in by November 1 so that we can get money by December. Drop them in the box in the lobby or office.
