Welcome everyone. . .  what a great  start we are off to this year.  I have been walking around and seeing so many happy faces engaged in their classwork and kids walking down the halls looking sooooo proud of themselves to be here at THEIR SCHOOL.  I have seen beautiful self-portraits on the walls, smelled delicious apple cobblers in the air and have heard happy sounds of laughter and the quiet of students focusing on their studies.  Our teachers and staff and principal are sooooo cool soooo together and so dedicated, Thank you.

We the parents of the Earth school are truly fabulous too.  For those of us who are new this year.  we raised money in the past year for air conditioning , school trips, music program for the younger grades , dance program for the upper grades and money for the teachers to use in their classrooms .
At the Earth School there are soooo  many parents that are involved.  In my experience it hasn’t been just a few people doing the work but many parents. Sarah, Deirdra, Corinna, Maggie, Laura, Laura, Tanya, Eva, Ana and Assami.  They have been at this school for years and have built a strong foundation that is continually growing. I don’t mean to leave people out,  please shout out the name if you like.

I was 42 when I had my son . . . I have been spending a lot of years finding myself and being on the go on this big city what I mean by this is that I didn’t spend any time understanding the public school system here in NY.  We have such an amazing school here.  We are one of the few schools where parents are allowed to enter the school and be with their kids in the morning and afternoon.  At this point I can’t imagine it being any other way.  We get to be a part of our kids life and I know that makes my kid feel great.
Creating community is the most important thing to me.

We have a fall fair coming up on October 25th.  It is really a fun event with amazing food and crafts and rummage sale.  One of our parents makes an truly yummy pasta dish with mushroom that she brings back from italy every year.  This evening see if you can sign up to volunteer to work at the fall fair for a few hours.  The day will be divided up into shifts.

Thanks for Making The Earth-Go-Round

Thanks for Making The Earth-Go-Round !!!

Appreciation of all  . . . thanks to all !!!
We have given so much love and effort to serve and teach our children well.  The energy and joy that our children put out is tremendous.  We have done a great job.

Another school year has passed. . . .
Please take the time to read this (unlike the end of a movie) and
thank each other in person with a smile.

We give thanks for. . . . .
Our 5th graders that are graduating this year.
Our hot new cookin’ cart
Our chillin' AC in 6 classrooms
Our goldiggin' grant-writing committee
Our MOMA-like hallways
Our wild wild web committee
Our colorful yearbook
Our jolly green giant gardening committee
Our rectangular school photos
The brilliant DVD recording of our kids’ music performance

Let's also be thankful for:
Alison's fabulous transition from stepsister to Cinderella
Our totally talented and terrific teachers !!!!
Our aides, nurses, OT’s, interns and subs
Jocelyn, our Carmen’s, Freddy, Nelvy and Ray for holding down the castle
Officers Southerland and Baptiste for checking ID’s and preventing dragons from crossing the moat !!!
The ultra successful and super-fun events we sponsored and attended this year that raised over $25,000 for programs: camp spears, third street music, dance for life, puppet workshop and the 10 grand for the AC !!!

Thanks to all that:
attended PA meetings, baked cookies, sorted thru dirty underwear, made photocopies, made brisket sandwiches, made pasta with pumpkin and pancetta, made stress balls, made phone calls, loaded cars with stuff, lugged heavy stuff, moved heavy stuff, spun records, set-up tables, loaned their cars and solicited donations and then bought them !!!!

Hugs and kisses to:
Our class parents, our parents, the after-school survey committee, the parents and kids who stood out in the rain at city hall for hours on end to protest budget cuts.
Our SLT, our PA execs, the keepers of the cash, the keepers of all things that we don't know but should know but don't need to know 'cause we can just ask them.
And. . . thanks to those who stay up 24/7 to man their blackberrys and be the first to get things moving along.

In the coming year we are looking for ways to keep our spirit going strong . .

         1. strengthen our commitment to support our teaching staff
         2. new fundraising ideas (art auction, outdoor flea market, concerts)
         3. new programs. . . yoga, chess. . . ???
         3. using the earthschool website to open up communication, save and share resources

        and . . . . .
