Introducing The Green Pages!
Welcome to the first issue of The Green Pages, a newsletter about all things green at The Earth School. Read all about the projects and plans that kids, parents, and staff members are doing to sustain our dear planet and its valuable resources. The big message is, “WE CAN HELP!” This first issue will be sent home on paper, but that’s just a one-time deal. After that The Green Pages will be sent out through free email subscriptions OR you can just borrow a copy from the bin in the lobby and return it when you’re finished. That way we can conserve some of trees and energy that are used when printing on paper!! And here’s another way you can help, please send in your stories, news, ideas, questions, or comments. BUT, they have to be GREEN. To figure out what’s green, just keep reading…
In the Garden: Spring Clean Up The Garden Committee invites adult garden enthusiasts to a pitch in to our Spring Clean Up Day on March 28, (a Friday halfday) at drop off time. General clean up, repairs, and mini-projects will prepare our beloved garden for spring planting fun for the kids! Learn about ways to help our garden programming grow while mingling and munching. Breakfast treats provided.
Solar Oven C.O.W. Club
Students for 4/5th Grade classes are building solar ovens during C.O.W. Time with Abbe. They will be testing them out the next sunny day! Mmmm…

A Plastic Continent?
A plastic garbage patch twice the size of Texas has formed in the Pacific Ocean!!! It is choking wildlife and contaminating our food supply. Plastics do not biodegrade, they just break into smaller and smaller pieces. Birds, fish, sea mammals and turtles mistakenly ingest the plastic debris. Where is all the plastic coming from? According to research, each of us throws out about 185 pounds of plastic each year. We have a plastic problem!!!! What are Earth School kids going to do about it? The Cooking Cart Project
The Cooking Cart is a rolling kitchen that classrooms can borrow as needed. Sponsored by the Earth School Parent Association and many generous donations, the Cart was dreamt up by the families and teachers on the Garden & Nutrition Committee to promote healthy and sustainable food experiences in school. “What is so green about classroom cooking?,” you may ask. People eat many times a day. What we eat and where our food comes has a huge impact on our health and on the environment. Through a variety of cooking experiences, students will have the opportunity to prepare and sample wholesome homemade foods from different cultures while learning some green cooking tips!
